We have two Assessment Units, P.A.U. (Paediatric Assessment Unit)
situated at the Heartlands site and C.A.U. (Children’s Assessment Unit)
based at Good Hope hospital.
Sam has fallen ill, and come to hospital to find out why.
He is sent to an Assessment Unit – a special part of the hospital.
Here, nurses and doctors help Sam and his family.
Sam is in the Assessment Unit for quite a while,
because everyone wants to be sure what’s wrong.
The doctors might decide Sam can go home, or ask Sam to stay for the night.
Family and friends come and see Sam.
The doctors find out what is wrong with Sam, and help him get better.
