PATCH

The PATCH nurses can care for poorly children at home, instead of at hospital. PATCH stands for ‘Paediatric Ambulatory Treatment of Children at Home’.

This just means that the children don’t need to be in hospital to receive the right care for their illness. It’s better for everyone if people who don’t need to be in hospital can be sent home – and yet still get the right care.

PATCH nurses will come to your home and monitor your illness. They can provide ‘Intravenous Therapy’ – giving you medicine though a ‘drip’ – and also take blood tests.

The PATCH nurses work very closely with staff back at the hospital to ensure you’re getting the right treatment. You should be better in no time – in the comfort of your own home!
